I was new to the city, without support or direction. BCC helped me find my footing. They made me feel seen and valued.
When we lost everything to an unexpected crisis, BCC showed up, not just with supplies, but with love and strength.
BCC stepped in during one of the hardest times in my life. Their kindness and support gave me hope when I had none.

Rather than describing BCC as simply a charity, Banele portrays it as an organisation that restores hope, dignity, belonging, and humanity. He explains that while many organisations provide resources, Butterfly Compassion Community provides compassionate relationships and genuine care that transform lives. Drawing on his experience as a social worker, he reflects on supporting families experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, poverty, bereavement, housing insecurity, and other significant hardships. Throughout these experiences, BCC has
consistently been a trusted partner, providing practical support ranging from beds, clothing, bedding, baby items, and household goods to sensory resources, school packs, birthday gifts, sports equipment, and emergency assistance. A central theme of the tribute is that BCC never asks "Why?" but instead asks "How can we help?" This compassionate, non-judgemental approach helps people feel respected, valued, and supported during some of the most difficult periods of their lives. Banele emphasises that the organisation sees the person behind each request rather than simply responding to a need. The tribute also highlights the "Butterfly Effect"—the idea that seemingly small acts of kindness create lasting ripple effects. A blanket becomes warmth and security; a bed becomes rest; a school bag becomes confidence; a birthday gift becomes a cherished childhood memory. These practical acts lead to greater resilience, hope, and opportunity for individuals and whānau. Banele acknowledges every volunteer, donor, coordinator, and supporter who contributes to BCC's work, recognising that their efforts literally change lives. He describes the partnership between ACROSS and Butterfly Compassion Community as one built on trust, shared values, and a common commitment that no one should face hardship alone. The tribute concludes by recognising that while donated items may eventually wear out, the compassion shown to people will never be forgotten. BCC's true legacy is not measured by the number of donations distributed but by the lives transformed, hope restored, and dignity preserved. Banele offers sincere gratitude on behalf of himself, ACROSS, and the many whānau whose lives have been touched by Butterfly Compassion Community's unwavering aroha and service.
